John McLellan

Hi, I’m John McLellan, or, to give you my full name, John Wallace Alexander McLellan. I was born in Fleetwood, actually just a couple of streets away from Emmanuel @ theMount and educated in three local schools. I’m married with four (now grown-up) children and six grandchildren (with a seventh on
the way at the time of writing this profile).

I joined Emmanuel – at the time the Full Gospel Church – in June ‘69, having become a Christian just a few weeks earlier, following a personal spiritual journey which I’d been on for most of my earlier years.

In 1977, I joined the newly-formed ministry team, my remit being Extension (for which read Evangelism or Mission) and have been an Associate Minister ever since. My role has seen me involved, among other things, in forming and leading teams from the church for personal and community evangelism, providing access to national courses, such as Alpha and Christianity Explored, acting as Representative to Fleetwood Churches Together (for whom I organise their Easter events), visitation to those in need and public ministry within the church.

At the same time, I am also the Chaplain to a local project of Langley House Trust, a charity formed for the rehabilitation of ex offenders. Throughout almost all this time, I’ve been in full-time employment – more recently with the Civil Service from whom I’ve now retired.

But this, I’m delighted to say, gives me the opportunity to be more fully involved with a really great leadership team and fellowship as we look to reimagine the church so that it offers an authentic alternative way of living in a world dominated, it seems, by fear, anxieties, intolerance and the breakdown of all that’s stable and affirming in our world.

As I, therefore, look forward to introduce people to their Creator, the source of life, who offers them enduring peace, security and hope through all situations – and, best of all, eternal life through faith in his Son, Jesus, I would be thrilled if you were to visit us some time – at our website or, even better and when you’re able, in person.

With very best wishes – John W A McLellan – or John With A Mission
